Build a buffer before the airport

Do not plan a detailed session between hotel checkout and an airport transfer. Keep time for the tattoo, a complete aftercare explanation, a meal, normal transport delays, and a quiet period in clean accommodation.

For a large piece, a placement likely to swell, or a journey involving several flights, ask the artist about timing before confirming the appointment. If your itinerary allows it, a recovery night is easier than going directly from the chair to a ferry, van, security queue, and aircraft seat.

Managing a 12-hour seat

Before boarding, think about where the tattoo will meet the seat: a back piece against upholstery, a thigh under a tight trouser seam, or an ankle close to footwear can all feel different. Choose clothing and a seat position that reduce direct pressure without compromising the seat belt.

Long-distance travel involves prolonged sitting for everyone. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends moving the legs frequently and walking periodically on journeys longer than four hours.
